Why this matters

Two things go wrong for Indian businesses, and neither appears in any global hosting review.

The renewal declines and the site goes offline. Under the RBI's e-mandate framework a recurring card charge needs a mandate registered with additional factor authentication, a pre-debit notification at least 24 hours ahead, and fresh authentication every time the amount exceeds ₹15,000. Annual hosting renewals routinely exceed it. Merchants that never adapted see their charges fail on valid, funded cards. Full explanation here.

You cannot claim the tax back. A dollar invoice from an overseas provider carries no Indian GST, so a GST-registered business has nothing to claim as input tax credit — while also paying a forex markup of roughly 3.5% on the card, plus GST on that markup fee. Same sticker price, different real cost.

How we collected it

For each host we open a paid account or take the checkout as far as payment selection, then record what we can see with our own eyes: the currency charged, whether the tax invoice in the billing panel carries a GSTIN field, which payment methods are offered at renewal rather than only at signup, whether a pre-debit reminder actually arrives, and whether an unpaid invoice can be settled manually when auto-renewal fails.

We do not record what a host's marketing page claims. Only what happened.
