Is Cloudways the best Cloud hosting?

In this Cloudways Review, we’re going to look at key features like pricing and plans to help you decide if they are a good option for your WordPress website.

We also compare Cloudways against one of the best WordPress hosting providers like Cloudways vs SiteGround and see which one comes out on top.

What is Cloudways?

Cloudways is a web hosting platform that provides managed cloud hosting. Unlike other cloud hosting company’s, on this platform you can choose from 5 popular cloud hosting providers like DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud.

Normally, you’d probably need some technical skills to setup these servers but Cloudways handles the setup, management and configurations of these servers for you. You also get to choose from 60+ Global Data Centers so you can serve content faster to your target audience. So, it doesn’t matter your geographical location, you can get fast speed and performance where ever you are.

What is Cloud hosting?

Cloud hosting is a type of web hosting that uses virtualization software to divide a single physical server into multiple virtual servers. When your website is hosted on Cloudways, it leverages the resources of multiple virtual servers to balance your website load.

This allows you to balance the traffic and server load among multiple servers while maximizing uptime, speed and performance. This also gives your website access to more resources in case one of the other servers fail.

Cloud Hosting vs Shared Hosting?

Cloud hosting is normally seen as the better alternative to shared hosting because of its improved performance, reliability, security and ability to handle large amounts of traffic.

Generally, Cloud hosting is more expensive than shared hosting but Cloudways offers cloud hosting plans at an affordable price. You can literally start a server for only $10 bucks a month on the Digital Ocean plan which is the same cost of many shared hosting plans.

Is Cloudways good for WordPress?

Cloudways the best Cloud hosting for WordPress. You can easily install only WordPress or WordPress with WooCommerce. You’re able to install and host an unlimited amount of applications on a single server to reduce costs. What’s great is that Cloudways not only supports WordPress but other popular PHP applications as well, such as:

  • Magento
  • Laravel
  • Drupal
  • Joomla
  • PrestaShop
  • OpenCart

Cloudways vs SiteGround, which one is better?

Cloudways offers better speed, pricing and performance for cloud hosting plans, however if you don’t need cloud hosting and you’re just looking for a shared hosting solution that includes a cPanel control panel then SiteGround might be a better option for you.

In my opinion, SiteGround is the best shared hosting provider and I still use them for some of my sites but Cloudways is an overall better value in terms of pricing and performance. Cloudways pricing is reasonable, because you can get Cloud hosting for the price of many shared hosting plans but if you’re looking for a Cloudways alternative then SiteGround is a great choice.

Cloudways Free 3-Day Trial

Cloudways is the only web hosting provider we know that gives you a free 3-day trial period of their hosting services with no credit card required. There’s no risk to try it out for a few days and see if it’s right for you. You can sign up for a free trial here.

cloudways free trial

This type of free trial is unheard of in the hosting industry and that says a lot about this company. They’re willing to let you test out their servers with no commitment on your part because they’re confident that you’ll be happy with their services.

What I found surprising is that this platform has a churn rate of 3%, which means that very few customers cancel their plans with Cloudways, which means they must be doing something right.

So, when I first signed up for the free trial, I noticed a big difference in speed and performance and immediately switched most of my sites from SiteGround to Cloudways. I feel like you get a lot more for your money with their cloud hosting plans.

Not to mention, SiteGround offers low introductory pricing for all their plans but when it comes time for renewal they charge you high renewal fees which just doesn’t seem worth it to me for shared hosting when you can get Cloud hosting at the same price.

Cloudways vs SiteGround (Control Panel)

Cloudways provides you with a custom control panel while Siteground offers the industry-standard cPanel as the control panel. For those who are already familiar with cPanel might find using the Cloudways custom control panel a little challenging at first. There’s a small learning curve but it’s pretty easy to use once you familiarize yourself with the control panel interface.

Cloudways vs SiteGround (Pricing)

cloudways review pricing and plans

Cloudways and SiteGround use a different pricing and billing structure. Cloudways has a monthly billing option and also uses a “Pay-as-You-Go” pricing model, so you only pay for the resources you use.

SiteGround has a monthly and annual billing option with set limitations or recommendations on the number of visitors each plan can handle every month.

We really like the Cloudway’s “Pay-as-You-Go” pricing structure because you can save money if you don’t utilize all of your resources.

Now, let’s compare Cloudway’s pricing against SiteGrounds for cloud hosting.

SiteGround offer similar cloud hosting plans as Cloudways but at a much higher price. For example, let’s take a look at SiteGrounds most popular cloud hosting plan:

cloudways vs siteground pricing review

It costs $120/mo and offers 4 CPU cores, 8 GBs of memory, 60 GB of SDD Space and 5TB of data transfer or bandwidth.

When you compare it to Cloudways pricing at $80 for cloud hosting you get all the same resources but instead of 60GB of Storage, you get 160GB, so that’s 100GB more in space and it’s 40 bucks cheaper.

If you’re just starting out and you don’t need an expensive server, we recommend using the Digital Ocean server, it’s the most affordable option and you can start your own server for $10 bucks a month, which is crazy. You can literally get high performance Cloud hosting for the price of most shared hosting plans out there.

Now, SiteGround seems to offer a little more resources but it doesn’t justify the expensive pricing. This is a no brainer guys, you get more for your money and a much better value with Cloudways.

Which Cloud Hosting provider should you choose?

It depends on your budget and needs. Before selecting any provider be sure to check the pricing and data centers. You can check the data centers by clicking the link under the Cloud Provider name as shown in the screenshot below.
